Rock Cove
A house suspended between land and sea.
Shaped by a narrow coastal site and dramatic outlook.
Rock Cove is set on a tight strip of former MOD land on the Rosneath Peninsula, where the site falls sharply towards the sea. The constraints of this narrow, linear plot became the starting point for the design, resulting in a building that projects outwards and engages directly with its setting.
The house is organised as a sequence from enclosure to openness. Bedrooms line the more protected rear elevation, while the building extends towards the coastline, culminating in a fully glazed living space. Here, the boundary between inside and outside is reduced, with a sheltered deck beneath the timber soffit creating a place to sit within the landscape.
The experience of the house is defined by its position, with changing light, weather and views forming part of everyday life. The building remains simple in form, allowing the relationship between structure, horizon and sea to take precedence.
